Didier Drogba capped a fantastic season by ending up with the Premierships
Golden boot. Drogba was by far the best striker this season and scored
some brilliant individually goals which helped Chelsea come 2nd in the
Premiership and win both the FA Cup and League Cup. Benni McCarthy came
2nd which is a great acheivement for a player in his first season. It
would be interesting to see whether he will move onto a bigger club
during the summer, Chelsea have been linked with him previously. Ronaldo
voted PFA player of the season and Football Writers player of the season
came 3rd and the number of goals justifies his contribution this season.
He has had an incredible campaign and is currently the top 5 players
in the world at the moment.

Thierry Henry had a fantastic season last year scoring six more goals
than any other player in the Premiership. He has dominated the scoring
charts for the past 3three seasons and his decision to still in the
Premiership will delight many Arsenal fans and also the Premiership.
You will expect at least another 20 goals from him this coming season
and hopefully the challenge of winning the award for the Premierships
top goal scorer will be closer. Ruud Van Nistelrooy fell away in the
second half of last season when he hardly featured. Darren Bent had
a incredible start to the campaign but fell away just like Charlton
as a whole did. It will be interesting to see whether Craig Bellemy
can rediscover his form for Liverpool as he did for Blackburn. He has
never been recognized as a 20+ goals player and is usually the second
striker, assisting and making things happen. In a better team maybe
he will score a few more. And will Chelsea's new signing Shevchenko
hit the Premiership by storm, like he did for AC Milan in Italy.

Alan Shearer now retired from professional football is by far the all
time leading top goalscorer of the Premiership. He is 75 goals ahead
of another Newcastle Favourite Andy Cole, who has 185 Premiership goals
to his name. Within the top 10 all time top goalscorers in the Premiership
only Theirry Henry and Michael Owen stands a chance of breaking Alan
Shearers record. All other players are either retired or at the end
of their prolific careers. Thierry Henry who has been the tpp Premiership
goalscorer for the last three Premiership seasons stands a great chance
of beating the record. He has scored over 25 in the last three seasons,
averaging an amazing 27. And if his current strike rate continues then
Alan Shearers record is within reach in 3-4 seasons time.
Henry's remarkable goal-scoring and goal-assisting record is more
than just
a matter of earning a place in the record books. Whole games can
be decided
just on his contribution to the play.
Henry's ability also plays havoc with bookies trying to set football
odds as his presence on the pitch makes a significant impact
on the outcome of the game.
Whether or not Henry will beat Shearer's record and if he does,
just how
high he will set the bar, is a subject of much speculation. We shall
have to
wait and see.
