History of the Premiership

Story of the Premiership

The F A Premiership was formed by the leading top clubs in the original Football League Division One. Their decision to break away from the football league was so that they would gain more control over T V rights and the potential to bring further revenue into the club. Also the new premiership would enable them to have more control generally over their own destiny.

Since the FA Premiership began, the Premier League has been dominated by three clubs - Manchester United, Arsenal and now also Chelsea. Manchester whave definetly been the stronest with 8 titles in the first 11 years, this also involved winning 3 F A Cup, culminating in the unique treble of league, Cup and European Champions League title in 1999. Other teams that have won the Premiership in between Manchester Uniteds success have been Blackburn Rovers, Arsenal and Chelsea.
