About Liverpool

LiverpoolLiverpool were formed in 1892 following an arguement over the rent between rivels Everton FC and their landlord at Anfield - John Houlding - who founded Liverpool as eventually Everton departed for Goodison Park. It didnt take Liverpool long to established themselves as one of the country's top teams with five league titles between 1900 and 1947, before dropping into Division Two in 1954. The reigns of the instrumental Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley from 1959 to 1983 saw power shift significantly towards Liverpool and they started to dominate. After gaining promotion to the top division in 1961, the club won trophy after trophy, including four European Cup wins. Their 18 First Division title victories is a extremely proud record on Merseyside. The 1990s was a transitional period for the club, with only one FA Cup and one League Cup added to the trophy room. Gerard Houllier, reprised some of the glory days. In one calendar year,2001, Houllier's side collected a staggering five trophies . Houllier left in May 200 and Rafael Benitez was appointed to win back the league title. Benitez in his first season secured his position in the Anfield history books with victory in the 2004/05 Champions League - Liverpools fifth triumph on Europe's biggest stage which meant they kept the trophy. Bentiez then in his second second won the FA cup.
